Gerda Verburg is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on August 19, 1957 in Zwammerdam, South Holland, Netherlands. Gerritje “Gerda” Verburg (born 19 August 1957) is a Dutch politician and diplomat from the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) party as well as a trade union leader.

In the Dutch general elections of 1998 Verburg got elected a member in the House of Representatives for the Christian Democratic Appeal. Verburg was among only a handful of Christian Democratic Appeal members who supported legalizing gay weddings.

From 22 February 2007 until 14 October 2010 Verburg was Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality in the Cabinet Balkenende IV, and the first openly lesbian Minister of Christian Democratic signature in a Dutch Cabinet. In 17 June 2010 she returned to the House of Representatives until 30 June 2011.

From 1 July 2011, Verburg served as the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations organizations for Food and Agriculture in Rome (FAO, IFAD and WFP) succeeding former CDA politician Agnes van Ardenne. In this capacity, she chaired the United Nations Committee on World Food Security (CFS) between 2013 and 2015.

Between 1997 until 1998 Verburg was an executive in the field of communication and project management. She was also an active part of both the Social and Economic Council and the Labour Foundation. She was as the executive committee member of the European Trade Union Confederation, as well as on board members of Interchurch Organisation for Development Cooperation and the Royal Dutch Equestrian Sports Federation (KNHS) and the Stichting Geuzenverzet.

Verburg went to mavo as well as havo classes at the Protestant schools of Bodegraven as well as Alphen in den Rijn. After finishing the second year of her education at school, Verburg pursued labor relations and personnel work at the IJsselpoort Protestant School of Social Work in Kampen from 1976 until 1980.

In 2003 Verburg was candidate for President for the House of Representatives, but she was defeated by People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy candidate Frans Weisglas. Verburg was from 2003 Vice-Chair of the Parliamentary Party in House of Representatives. She was the chair of the Christian Democratic Appeal commission on social affairs.
