For his columns on mathematics, Szpiro was awarded the Prix Media by the Swiss Academy of Natural Sciences, in 2003. He also received an award called the Media Prize by the German Mathematical Society in 2006. Alongside his writing for NZZ In addition, he has written non-research mathematics column in journals like Nature as well as Notices of the American Mathematical Society.
Szpiro worked as an associate professor in The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania from 1984 to 1986. Szpiro was also a professor on mathematical economics and statistics at Hebrew University, during 1986-1992. He instructed for Zurich University. University of Zurich. His research has been published in papers in the fields of finance, mathematics and statistics.
