George Lwandamina is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Manager who was born on August 5, 1963 in Mufulira, Zambia. George Lwandamina (born 5 August 1963) is a former Zambian footballer as well as the head manager for the Zambia national team. He played a short career in Zambia and also won numerous awards as a defender for Mufulira Wanderers.
His brief stint as a player for the national team came to an end in 1990, when he played a World Cup qualifier against Morocco in Rabat in January 1989. in which Zambia lost 1-1.
Soon after he quit playing, Lwandamina was appointed Assistant Coach to Melu at Wanderers in 1995 and the team won its first league title in 17 years which they retained the following year. After attending a coaching course in Germany, he took over the reins at Wanderers when Melu died in January 1997.
With Wanderers beset by financial problems, Lwandamina left for Nchanga Rangers in 2000 and was in charge of the youth programme but he did not stay there for long as he quit to become Peter Kaumba’s assistant at Green Buffaloes in 2001, and when Kaumba left the army club the following year, Lwandamina was elevated to the head coach’s position and they finished third in the league. He led Buffaloes to the runners-up slot in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007.
On November 27, 1987 Lwandamina received a call-up to Zambia’s national squad by Samuel “Zoom” Ndhlovu as Zambia was preparing to participate in the CECAFA Cup tournament in Ethiopia however, the Zambian was not part of the final squad.

When he was in his final year at the school of 1984 Lwandamina had a number offers from clubs in Kitwe however he decided for Mutondo Stars which was being directed by Fordson Kabole. After completing his school, he returned to Mufulira and, rather than joining Wanderers instead, he decided to join rivals Mufulira Blackpool, as the club was eager to follow Kalusha Bwalya’s path to fame and was very well-liked at John Yumba Kachofa Stadium.
After a brief stint in Blackpool, Lwandamina fulfilled his desire to move towards Shinde Stadium in 1986 and although Bwalya as well as Charles Musonda had left to pursue careers in professional football in Belgium Wanderers were still an impressive group under their coach Ackim Musenge, who included the likes of Ashols Melu, Efford Chabala, Philemon Mulala, Evans Mulala, Emmanuel Munaile and Lackson Manda. When Melu quit to join Olympiacos at the Olympiacos stadium in Greece, Lwandamina took over the captain’s armband. Despite the fact that Wanderers had won numerous cups but the league title was not a reality for the team. While at Wanderers and the club, he was awarded the Mosi Cup, the Challenge Cup and the Heroes and Unity trophy and the Champion of Champions Cup.
He later suffered a knee injury in 1992 which hampered him for almost three years, as he had to rely on binding the knee and pain-killing injections until he was forced into retirement in 1995.
