Josten was picked in the second round (20th overall) of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft by the Columbus Crew. Josten made his first debut as a professional in the MLS SuperDraft for Columbus in May 27th, 2008 and came in as a substitute to Alejandro Moreno in a US Open Cup match in the US Open Cup against Real Salt Lake.
After a stint on loans with Cleveland City Stars in the USL Second Division, and despite scoring just two assists and one goal in 11 MLS Reserve Division matches, Josten was let go from Columbus at the conclusion year 2008 not having played even a second during MLS club soccer.

Josten was a student at Idaho Falls High School and played in the NCAA soccer tournament in the NCAA Division at Gonzaga University, where he scored 34 goals in 79 professional games in four seasons. The Gonzaga University graduate finished his college career as the third-highest scorer in the history of Gonzaga University in goals and assists , and fourth in points. He was selected on the All-West Coast Conference first team for three consecutive seasons from 2005 and 2007. He was also selected to the NSCAA All-Far West Region first team in 2006 and 2007.
In his time at college, Josten was also a part of the Michigan Bucks in the USL Premier Development League as a player, and was instrumental in helping them win their first PDL Championship Game in 2007.
He signed for Portland Timbers of the USL First Division on February 20, 2009.
