His birth place was in the town in Manglisi, Georgia, in 1967. The year 1991 was the time he received his degree in his school, the Ukrainian Institute of International Relations and International Law, Kiev State University, Faculty of International Law. In 1997, he earned a Master of Law degree, LL.M-International and Comparative Law, Southern Methodist University (SMU) School of Law, Dallas, United States. In 2003, he enrolled in into the JFK School of Government, Harvard University as a mid-career student. He is currently an Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree candidate.

In January 2008 his replacement was David Bakradze as a foreign minister. He was also said to have decided to step down from public service to pursue a career in working in the business sector. The 30th of January, 2008 Bezhuashvili was appointed head of the Intelligence Department of Georgia, succeeding Anna Zhvania. Bezhuashvili continued to hold the post under the new administration of Bidzina Ivanishvili, and the successor Irakli Georgiaribashvili from December 27 to 2013 and was then replaced by Davit Sujashvili.

Bezhuashvili began his career in his position in the Georgian Foreign Ministry in the early 1990s. He was the Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary Envoy for Kazakhstan between 1993 until 1996. Through the 1990s He was also engaged in collaboration within the Council of Europe (CoE) and was a key negotiator during the accession of Georgia into the CoE at the end of 1999. He later served as the deputy Defence Minister between 2000 until 2004 and then as the defense minister from the month of February until June 2004. He was also the first civilian appointed to the post during post-Soviet Georgia. From June 2004 through Oct. 2005, the Georgian served as in charge of Secretary for Georgia’s National Security Council of Georgia and was appointed to replace Salome Zourabichvili, Minister of Foreign Affairs on the 19th of October 2005.
