Knight Born in the year 1964, Knight was from Oakham, England and was raised in the village of Knowle in the West Midlands. He was a student at Arden School and Solihull Sixth Form College. Knight quit his higher education in the middle of his first year. He then began to travel around Europe as well as across the Middle East. He began his career as photographer in the latter part of the 1990s across South East Asia and Indochina from his home in Bangkok, Thailand, where he worked alongside photographer Philip Blenkinsop, Emmanuel Dunand and Thierry Falise as well as the writers Alan Pearce and Robert Birsel.

In 2000, along with John Stanmeyer he conceived the VII Photo Agency which was founded in 2001. VII was named the 3rd-most influential company for photography in American Photo Magazine in 2003. In 2005, Knight along with a group of friends established the Angkor Photo Festival and Angkor Photo Workshops in order to assist young photographers from Asia. In 2008, he established along with Simba Gill as well as Mort Rosenblum the Print magazine Dispatches. In the last few years, Knight has reported on the invasion of Iraq and an occupation of Afghanistan and the civil conflict of Kashmir along with the Asian Tsunami amongst other stories but the main focus of his work is the need to tackle the issues that affect the existence of the world’s poor as well as others Human Rights issues.

Its work was featured by Newsweek (where the photographer was a contracted photographer between 1999 until the year 2009), Time, The Sunday Times, The New York Times, Paris Match, Stern and National Geographic. The work of Knight has been shown throughout the world and is part of the collections of many private collections and museums. Knight has started a wide program of education in conjunction in collaboration with Universities and non- governmental organizations around the world. He is the author of numerous articles on photography and journalism. He is a teacher in a handful of photography workshops each year, mostly on the continents of India in both Cambodia. He was an Nieman Fellow in Harvard University and an INSPIRE Scholar at Tufts University in 2010. Knight gives lectures on journalism and photography in Tufts University where he founded and directs the Program for Narrative and Documentary Practice at the Institute for Global Leadership. He lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

He was Chairman of the WHO/Stop TB Photography Advisory Board between 2009 and 2011, a board member of the Crimes of War Foundation and a trustee of the Indochina Media Memorial Foundation.
