The news was made public on December 21, 2009 that Deegan was to sign for English Championship club Coventry City on the 4th of January, 2010 on an agreement for three and a half years contract. Deegan began his first game with Coventry as a substitute in the second half against Barnsley on January 9th, 2010. The goal he scored was his debut for Coventry in his second appearance for the club in a game against Queens Park Rangers in a victory of 1-0 for Coventry on the 13th February of 2010. The second time he scored for Coventry was an equalizer during the M69 derby on the 21st of March 2010 with the match ending at in a draw.
During the 2010–11 pre-season Deegan suffered a stress fracture of the ankle, putting him out of action for the duration of the season, only to come on as a substitute in the final game of the season in a 2–2 draw against Norwich City. In 2012 Deegan was the subject of controversy after tweeting a pro-IRA slogan. He was banned for two weeks by the club, pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
Deegan signed for Hibernian, managed by Pat Fenlon (which the pair worked together at Bohemians), in August 2012 on a one-year deal. After joining, Fenlon said that he believed Deegan would become a fan favourite at the club. Deegan made his debut, making his first start and playing 90 minutes, in a 1–1 draw against Edinburgh derby rivals Heart of Midlothian. He helped the club improve its form in the early part of the 2012–13 season, but Deegan then suffered a broken jaw when he was the victim of an unprovoked attack in Edinburgh city centre. Deegan resumed training exercises in late November. A 27-year-old man was charged with assault in connection with the incident in December. Deegan said that his injury left him only able to eat soup for five weeks. Deegan made his return, coming on as a substitute, in a 3–2 loss against Motherwell on 15 December 2012. Deegan scored his first Hibs goal with a 30-yard strike in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup in a 1–0 victory over Aberdeen. He left Hibs at the end of his contract, after failing to secure a regular first team place.
Deegan quit Shelbourne in their winter 2006 due to the financial collapse and was signed by Longford Town in February 2007. Deegan immediately joined Longford’s starting XIand made 35 matches in the league and cup throughout the season and scoring 3 goals. After a difficult year both on and off the field, Longford were relegated to the First Division, but Deegan was able to help Longford to make it to the final of the 2007 FAI Cup Final, which was not played because of suspension. Deegan was signed by Galway United on a full- time basis on the 24th of January, 2008. He was then released on July 9 due to financial problems at Galway.

Deegan began his career at Shelbourne. He played one game for the team’s first team as a substitute in the second half of the UEFA Intertoto Cup game against FK Vetra of Lithuania at Tolka Park on June 24, 2006, a game Shelbourne easily won with a score of 4-0. However, he returned for the final games of the season and picked up his second League of Ireland winners medal as Bohs pipped deadly rivals Shamrock Rovers to the title by 4 points. Deegan’s talent was rewarded at the season’s end when he was voted on to the 2009 PFAI Team of the Season.
