Gagamaru Masaru (Japanese: Wo Ya Wan Sheng, born 23 February 1987 in Teimuraz Jugheli (Georgian: t`eimuraz Jug’eli )) is a Georgian professional sumo wrestler from Tbilisi. He is the third Georgian national following Kokkai and Tochinoshin, he made the top division of makuuchi, the professional debut was made in November 2005. He then made it to his juryo level in the month of November, and the makuuchi in the month of July in 2010. Originating from the Kise stable He briefly competed with Kitanoumi stable. Kitanoumi stable before returning to Kise stable. Kise stable following its reinstated. His highest ranking was the komusubi. He has been awarded two special awards to honor his Fighting Spirit and has been the runner-up at one event.
The tournament of January 2011 wasn’t a great event for the Gagamaru. He was unable to maintain an overall record of 2-4 after six days, he was out to drink with co-wrestler Georgian wrestling champion Kokkai and the two were reportedly involved in a dispute in the Indian eatery in the Tokyo’s Sumida Ward, causing damages to the building. They were both disciplined from officials from the Sumo Association for staying out after a tournament. Gagamaru was a mediocre 5-10 mark, which led to his being demoted to maegashira. The May Technical Examination Tournament he recovered from a 4-7 deficit to take four wins in consecutive matches and record an unbeaten record. In September 2011 , following losing on the opening day, he was able to win ten times consecutively and also a resounding victory over Baruto in his first match against an Ozeki. He won 11-4 and received his first special prize for Fighting Spirit. He was promoted to maegashira 3 in his November tournament however, despite facing the top wrestlers for the first time, he only won two matches. But he was able to turn his fortunes around in the tournament in January 2012 and scored his highest performance to date, scoring 12-3. He also shared the runner-up prize with yokozuna Hakuho. He also won two times in front of the winner of the tournament Baruto. He was awarded the second Fighting Spirit prize for this performance. Gagamaru was elevated to komusubi. He became the first player from the Kitanoumi stable to be promoted to the San’yaku ranks after the establishment of the stable in 1985. He was unable to win the first six games, but improved in his second tournament week ending the tournament with an impressive 6-9. At the time of the May 2012 event, the player was again representing Kise stable, after it was allowed to reopen. In maegashira 2, he was the top player. May, he was able to defeat ozeki Harumafuji, but was a mediocre performance and finished 5-10.
Gagamaru came through with a kachi-koshi 8–7 score in his debut jūryō tournament and won the yusho in the following tournament in January 2010 with a 12–3 record. In May he scored 10–5 from the jūryō 1 rank, ensuring promotion to makuuchi. However he made his debut in the top division in July out of a newly enlarged Kitanoumi stable after his old stable was closed due to his stablemaster’s Kise Oyakata involvement in a scandal involving selling tournament tickets to alleged yakuza members. Ranked at maegashira 12 he could only manage a 5–10 record, losing his last four bouts, but he remained in the division for the following tournament in September 2010 and produced a winning score of 10–5. In the November tournament in Kyushu he recovered from a 1–5 start to score 9–6, which earned him promotion to a new high of maegashira 6.
Gagamaru returned to the top division at the March 2015 tournament with excellent results. At the following tournament in May he won the first gold star of his career by beating yokozuna Harumafuji on the 10th day. He slipped back into the second division after a run of poor performances in early 2016 but was immediately promoted back to the top ranks after a winning record in July. He lost his top division status once again after the January 2017 tournament, and despite a brief re-appearance in makuuchi July 2017, he remained in the jūryō division. A 6–9 record in September 2018 left him in danger of demotion to makushita for the first time since he became a sekitori in November 2009, and Gagamaru told reporters he would consult his stablemaster before deciding whether to continue wrestling. In the banzuke for November 2018 Gagamaru’s rank was confirmed as makushita 1. He earned immediate promotion back to jūryō for January 2019 with a 5–2 record. He spent the rest of 2019 in jūryō but pulled out of the November tournament on Day 13 with only one win, ensuring demotion to makushita again. This absence ended his streak of 1050 matches from his professional debut. He withdrew from the January 2020 tournament and did not enter in March.
The shikina Gagamaru was coined from his Kise stablemaster, who was the former Higonoumi and the nickname of Jugheli “Gaga”. Since then, he’s naturally, been called “Lady Gaga Maru.” When he spoke to reporters following on the ninth day of September’s 2011. tournament remarked, “Let me tell you I was called Gaga since the time I was born. The real Gaga is me.” Since then the singer has had only one performance that was a breakout with an 11-4 record at maegashira 11 in the month of May 2013. While he was in the lower to mid top divisions for a time but was then relegated in the lower division following three loss records in the year 2014.

Jugheli was born in Tbilisi and he began his training at judo, sambo and in the sambo having won national Junior championships of both of these sports by his 16th birthday. He was invited to be a part of his Georgian youth sumo squad Jugheli accompanied them in the tournament of 2004 World Junior Sumo Championships in Osaka. (Also part of that team were the next Tochinoshin). He placed third as an individual and 2nd in team events. In Japan after the tournament He joined the Kise stable. Kise made his first appearance in the professional arena in November 2005.
He quickly moved across the divisions below becoming makushita just a year later, in November. He was planning to go home to see his family, however, his father died in a car accident. He was determined to pay tribute to the memory of his father (and imitate his colleagues Georgian wrestling champions) by achieving sekitori status. He achieved this in September 2009, after he won the makushita division of yusho, with the perfect record of 7-0. He honored his father in the press conference.
Gagamaru is an oshi-sumo specialist who mainly employs pushing and thrusting techniques. His most common winning kimarite is oshi-dashi or push out. Peaking at 212 kg in November 2013, he is one of the heaviest men in sumo.
