After playing an incredibly competitive snooker game in tournaments like the Hong Kong Masters and the 1988 Kent Cup, he defeated veteran Mike Darrington in the 1990 Professional Play-offs in order to secure an invitation to the professional ranks for the 1990/91 season.
The following two seasons saw an abrupt decline in his performance and, by the close of the 1993/1994 season Chan was ranked the 118th position. In that season, he recorded his only century break, scoring score of 118 in the Grand Prix qualifying match against David Grimwood, but after losing 3-4 to Darryn Walker during the qualifying match to play in the 1994 British Open, Chan did not participate in a competitive snooker match again. He was dropped from the tourand being ranked 310th in the year 1996.
Chan’s debut season on tour saw him achieve immediate victory, as he made it through the last 16 of two ranking tournaments including at the Asian Open and the Dubai Classic and the final 32 at the 1991 British Open. At the Asian Open, held in China Chan won against Jason Smith, David Roe, Wayne Jones and Darren Morgan and then lost one-five against Tony Chappel; the Dubai Classic had him beating Joe Grech, Nigel Gilbert, Cliff Wilson and Jimmy White however, Chan was defeated by 2-5 another veteran player, Rex Williams.

Franky Chan (born 17 March 1965) was an ex-professional snooker player who hails born in Hong Kong.
The non-ranking, 1991 Belgian Challenge, Chan reached the quarterfinals, where he fought White again and this time he lost by a score of 0-5. However there were only 16 players in the tournament in all. Chan was the only one to win his final 16 encounter in the final against Neal Foulds to reach this stage. The following season, 1991/92 Chan had the greatest result in his professional career as he took on Nigel Bond in the quarter-finals of the 1992 ranking Strachan Challenge. Chan won the third round with an average break of 69, however, Bond won 5-1. Chan ended the season 42nd and also set a career best.
In the British Open, Chan was defeated 5–0 by Stephen Hendry; having started the season without a ranking, he finished it 53rd, already within the top 64 who automatically kept their place on tour for the following season.
