Franco Tancredi (Italian pronunciation: [‘fraNGko TaNG’kre:di]; the 10th of January in 1955) is an Italian former professional footballer who was goalkeeper for various Italian clubs, including Roma and his Italy nation’s team. He is a part of the A.S. Roma Hall of Fame.
On the 14th of December 2007 Tancredi was officially named goalkeeping coach for the England national team in accordance with the appointment of the new England coach Fabio Capello. The year 2011 saw Tancredi was back in Roma as a part of the technical team of the new manager Luis Enrique. On June 13 Tancredi quit Roma for personal reasons.
After his retirement as a player Tancredi became goalkeeping coach at Roma until 2004, before taking over the coach Fabio Capello’s appointment to Juventus and accepting the same job. In the beginning of the 2006-07 season Tancredi was a follower of Capello to become goalkeeping trainer for Real Madrid.

Tancredi started his career with Giulianova as a player, and later was a player for Milan and Rimini before moving to Roma. He played more than 288 Serie A appearances for Roma between 1979 and 1990, claiming his first Scudetto in 1983, as well as 4 Coppa Italy titles. In 1987, in an encounter with Milan on the San Siro, he was struck on the head with a firework which was set off by an Milan fan. The player stopped breathing for a brief period, but was eventually revived by medical personnel. He retired in the year 1991 following a brief stint with Torino in which he was crowned the Mitropa Cup but was mainly as a backup to LucaMarchegiani.
Tancredi was the representative of Italy in Italy’s Italian team at the 1984 Summer Olympics as the second goalie next to Giovanni Galli in Italy’s squad during the 1986 FIFA World Cup. He played 12 times for Italy’s national team between 1985 and 1986. and all of them in friendly matches.
