Franco Casalini (Milan, 1 January 1952) is a famous Italian basketball coach from Italy. Most of his fame is due to his remarkable run through the famous team Olimpia Milano in the late 1980’s.

Casalini is also the coach of SAV Vacallo, in the Swiss league. He took home the Swiss Cup after a heated final with FV Lugano Virginio Bernardi , and he repeated the feat at the same time next year. Then, it brought Vacallo in the final however, both times he was defeated.

Casalini After a few weeks of training in basketball becomes a coach in the year 1971, and joins his ranks with the Social Osa , the historic Milan team, which is named after an oratory used by The Salesians from Milan. In 1972, following outstanding results with the school team, and winning the tournament City of Sesto , is appointed by Simmenthal to assist the youth section that is part of the team. Casalini starts a time of 18 years which will be a constant part of Olimpia Milano. As a youth coach , Casalini will help Olimpia to take home four league titles including Junior and Cadet . After joining Pippo Faina and having served for nine years as the assistant of Dan Peterson, first in the company of William Roggiani, and then as a single vice , he was an assistant coach only for team Milanese team in 1987 and 1988, having already won two international championships and that of the FIBA Club World Cup in September 1987, as well as the FIBA European Champions Cup in April 1988. The latter was the rematch for Tracer. In the 1988-89 season , he was the coach of Philips to victory in the Italian League although in the European tournaments, the team was eliminated in the semi-finals because of Wiwa Vismara Cantu. After that start, which was promising, Casalini is no longer in a position to sustain his team. The following season, the team was eliminated during the last four rounds of the Champions Cup and the second round of the Italian league playoffs, playing Viola Reggio Calabria. Olimpia is replaced the following season , replacing Mike D’Antoni. In 1991-92, he is replaced by Filanto Forli, however he leaves after just eleven days. Then he transfers the team of Virtus Roma, who were previously Paolo Di Fonzo: out of the playoffs in 1992-93 despite reaching finals in 1993. FIBA Korac Cup final (lost only against the D’Antonis’ Philips Milano) is replaced by Nevio Ciaralli during 1993-94.
