The player has been in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Cleveland Indians, Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers and in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) for the Samsung Lions.
Cruceta was a part of the Mariners during the 2006 spring training however, he began the season with Tacoma in which he played 28 games and posted 13-9 that included an ERA of 4.38 and was the top pitcher in his team in the Pacific Coast League (PCL) in strikeouts. In a game in the series against Colorado Springs Sky Sox Colorado Springs Sky Sox in the final days of May Cruceta pitched eight innings of shutout which allowed only two hits and no walks and striking out eleven. Cruceta was able to continue pitching with vigor however, he was not selected to be a part of an appearance on the PCL All-Star team which was criticized by the Rainiers director, Dave Brundage, who said Cruceta “dominant” and said that he was “snubbed.” The Mariners invited Cruceta to pitch in September to take the spot start, however, Cruceta was not able to make it out of the opening innings in the game against Kansas City Royals, giving five runs, which included an ominous grand slam in only one inning. The Mariners director Mike Hargrove: “It was one of those nights. He’ll pitch again. Out of the bullpen.” Cruceta pitched three relief appearances, dishing three runs over five innings of work however, at the close of the season, he was released. In the end, the Texas Rangers claimed Cruceta and transferred him to Triple-A Oklahoma RedHawks.
Cruceta was expected to compete for the vacant spots in the Tigers bullpen during spring training 2008, left by Joel Zumaya and Fernando Rodney after they suffered shoulder injuries. Cruceta’s chances of making the Tigers bullpen was dealt a blow when his visa was withheld, allegedly due to his suspension in 2007. After two months of waiting, Cruceta was granted his visa on April 9, allowing for him to come to the U.S. from his native Dominican Republic. After returning to the United States, Cruceta was brought up to the Tigers on April 30, 2008, when Jason Grilli was traded to the Colorado Rockies. Cruceta made 13 appearances for the Tigers, going 0–3 with an ERA of 5.40. On June 3, Cruceta was designated for assignment; after clearing waivers, he joined the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens. He became a free agent at the end of the season.
Cruceta signed with the Samsung Lions in the Korea Baseball Organization for the 2009 season. He showed fine performances in his first Korean pro league season, going 9–10 with a 4.36 ERA as a starting pitcher.
Cruceta came back to Buffalo during his 2005 campaign, however doubts arose about his position. He was not a great starter, and his attempts to make him an reliever pitcher had mixed outcomes. The manager Marty Brown was open in his critique of Cruceta’s attempts to transition into a reliever and admitted that when he saw Cruceta start the game in mid-August “You could see he felt more comfortable in that starting role than out of the bullpen. That’s a real positive for him.” A few days after the start it was announced that the Indians made him an assignment. In the meantime, the Seattle Mariners claimed him off waivers and transferred him to Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers.
