The child of Spanish immigrants, Copado began his football career in his hometown of Kiel and was initially with Eintracht Kiel and later with Holstein Kiel, where he was a youth player. In 1992-93, he signed a professional contract with Hamburger SV, whose scouts were keeping an eye monitoring his young attacking player.

From 1993 until the year 1995, Copado was involved in three Bundesliga matches.
