Padres were promoted Cordero into the Major Leagues on May 27 in 2017, when the regular center fielder Manuel Margot went to the disabled list due to a strain in his leg. Cordero made his Major League debut that day, hitting in at Stephen Strasburg as a pinch hitter. Cordero was on fire, racking up 19 hits during his first 17 games but he was unable to score a hit in his last 10 games, before being returned to El Paso on Margot’s return. He was back with the Padres for three additional games in July, when Margot was placed on the paternity list, but he ended this season in El Paso. In 93 games with El Paso he slashed .326/.369/.603 with 17 RBIs and home runs and in the 30 games with the Padres the bat was .228/.276/.424 including nine RBIs, three of which were home runs. playing 22 games in the left field and one in the center.

Cordero joined Cordero signed with the San Diego Padres as an international free agent in November of 2011. The Padres made his debut on the field in the 2012 season as a member of the Dominican Summer League Padres and was there for the entire season hitting .270 along with one home run and 38 RBIs over 61 games. The year before, he was a player with the Arizona League Padres where he hit .333/.381/.511 by hitting three homers and 17 RBIs in 35 games. Cordero began 2014 playing for Fort Wayne TinCaps. He was the Padres regular starter in left field before he was sent to the disabled list on May 28 with forearm soreness. Cordero began a rehab assignment in El Paso in June, but pain in his right elbow led to the diagnosis of a bone spur after an MRI. Surgery on the elbow ended Cordero’s Major League season, but he played in the Dominican Winter League. He finished the regular season hitting .237/.307/.439 with 9 home runs, making 22 starts in left field, 10 in center, and 4 in right. On April 20, he hit the second-longest home run in MLB for 2018, at 489 feet.
