Storace ran for president in the 2013 regional election in Lazio, but he got 29.3% of the vote and was beaten by Nicola Zingaretti.
In 2005, he did not win election, being defeated by the left-of-center candidate Piero Marrazzo. He was later appointed the Minister for Health within the Berlusconi III Cabinet.

He started his career with The right-wing magazine Il Secolo d’Italia, until becoming a member of the extreme right-wing group, the Italian Social Movement (MSI) and later , the National Alliance (AN) after rejection of extreme views. In 1994, he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies for the first time in the year 1994. He was at the time the spokesperson for Gianfranco Fini. From 1996 until 2000, He was the chairperson of the bicameral Commission overseeing the RAI.
In April 2000, he got elected as the president of Lazio. In the list of measures taken by Storace there was the opening of Sant’Andrea hospital as well as various health facilities.
