Francesco Acerbi (Italian pronunciation: [fran’tSesko a’tSerbi] born on February 10, 1988) is an Italian professional footballer who is a central defender at Serie A club Lazio.

On June 24, 2011 Genoa bought all of the rights to Acerbi’s trademark registration Reggina in exchange for EUR2.2 million, and then sent Antonino Ragusa in the opposite direction. On July 1, the 1st of July Acerbi became the property of Chievo as part of a co-ownership agreement for EUR2 million in the deal which resulted in Kevin Constant transferred to Genoa for EUR7.8 million. Ivan Fatic also returning to Chievo for EUR200,000 in June. Acerbi was a part of the starting XI for the second part of the season, making 14 starts. He was paired with Marco Andreolli in nine games, Dario Dainelli three games and Bostjan Cesar two games.

Until the age of 22, Acerbi played only in the lower tiers of Italian football, before being purchased by the Serie B club Reggina, where he established himself as a starting lineup defender. In 2011, Acerbi signed with Chievo Verona, thus making his Serie A debut. Despite being used only sporadically, Acerbi managed to draw the attention of A.C. Milan, who signed him the next summer. Having appeared in 10 games for the rossoneri, Acerbi returned to Chievo to complete the season. In 2013, he signed with Sassuolo. During his debut season for the club he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and successfully cured by the end of campaign, which paved the way for his return to the pitch in September 2014. In 2018, having made 173 appearances in all competitions for the neroverdi, Acerbi transferred to Lazio, where he continued to be a starting defender.

On 10 August 2012, Acerbi received his first senior team call-up from Cesare Prandelli.

2 August, Acerbi was loaned to Triestina before being transferred to Spezia on August 16 however he was only playing in Spezia’s primavera under-20 team. He was back at Pavia 1 July, and became a regular member of the first team. He was a part of both the 2009-10 Lega Pro Seconda Divisione promotion playoffs and ended up as semi-finalists losing. This team received promotion following certain teams were removed from this league because of financial difficulties.

The birthplace was Vizzolo Predabissi, Lombardy, Acerbi began his career with Lombard team Pavia before making his debut in the league on April 23rd, 2006. He was then loaned out to Serie D team Renate on 11 January 2007 to play an official match the following day. He made his debut on January 28 in a draw that ended in a draw with Palazzolo. He was back in Pavia on the 30th of January and was part of the final round of the 2006-07 Serie C2.

He played once during the 2010–11 Coppa Italia, a match he was ultimately sent off in. He was suspended in the next cup match and was not included in the third round.
