Floc'h is one of the most popular and richest Comics Artist who was born on September 25, 1953 in Mayenne, Pays de la Loire, France. Jean- Claude Floch (born September 25 1953) is also known as Floc’h is an French illustrator comics artist, illustrator and writer. He is well-known for his use of the style referred to as the ligne claire. His elder cousin Jean-Louis Floch was also a cartoonist and illustrator.

The fame of Floc’h grew after his publication Le Dossier Harding in 1980. He created commercial illustrations where he experimented with different techniques of drawing and created his own style that was inspired by graphic minimalism like in Le Secret de la Pulmoll verte in the year 1980. The year 1991 was the first time he worked with Jean-Luc Fromental to create an entire collection of cartoons influenced to the style from F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jamais two without three. They also co-authored the books Ma Vie, Life, High Life and Var, the Department that You Are the Heros.

Popular for his illustrations and cartoons, Floc’h has however exhibited his artwork in various galleries such as those at the Pixi Gallery in Paris as well as The Nicholas Davies Gallery in New York City. Floc’h has also created book covers and numerous movie posters, including Diabolo menthe, and Smoking and No Smoking, and created illustrations for various magazines and newspapers in France such as Lire, Senso, Monsieur, L’Express, Le Nouvel Observateur, Liberation, Le Monde, Le Figaro, and Elle. For the United States, he has designed covers and illustrations to GQ as well as The New Yorker. An assortment of his advertising illustrations was released in 1985 under the title Un Homme dans la Foule.

After a brief study of an Ecole nationale superieure des arts decoratifs (School of Decorative Arts) in Paris and then he devoted his time to drawing and comics. The first comics pages he published included the tale Le Conservateur, written by Rodolphe and published within Imagine from 1975. Comics’ character “Sir Francis Albany” was designed to be used in Pilote magazine in 1977 by Floc’h., in 1977. as well as collaborating alongside Francois Riviere. Floc’h released his first comic book in 1977, entitled Le Rendez-vous of Sevenoaks. Riviere and Floc’h dedicated their time to a narrative and illustration style that is characterized by Anglophilia which is also known as mise-en-abyme and a line claire style of drawing influenced from and influenced by the Belgian style of comics illustrations, pioneered by Herge. Together, they created the comic book series known as the Une triologie anglaise (An English Trilogy) and it was launched in 1977.

Both Floc’h and Francois Riviere worked together on their novel Les Chroniques d’Oliver Alban, of an Ironist’s Diary of an Ironist (2006) The novel was a study of the literature and art of two decades: 1940s and 1970s. They wrote the text together along with Floc’h as well as creating the artwork for the novel.
