Flavio Tosi is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on June 18, 1969 in Verona, Veneto, Italy. After joining Liga Veneta (LV) in 1991, Tosi was elected to the Municipal Council of Verona in 1994, at the age of 25. From 1997 until 2003, the provincial secretary was also a part from Verona’s LV in the province of Verona. In the 2000 regional elections, he got elected into his position on the Regional Council of Veneto, in which he served as an LV’s party’s leader on the floor for two years.

Tosi was the chairman of the board of directors of Autostrada Brescia Verona Vicenza Padova, a toll road operator, as well as a member of the board of its parent company A4 Holding.

On the 2nd of December, 2004, Tosi was found guilty of instigation racism under the Mancino Law, for having collected signatures in opposition to the creation of new camp for gypsies in Verona. Then, on the 30th of January 2007 The Court of Appeal found Tosi not guilty of the above offense, but simultaneously finding Tosi to be guilty of an insignificant crime (promoting an anti-racism campaign). On the 13th of December 2007, the Court of Cassation cancelled the sentence in question and decided that a new appeal should be heard. In June 2008, The Court of Cassation publicized the reasons behind the sentence of December 2007 and stated it was clear that Tosi wasn’t guilty of spreading beliefs of superiority of race or hate and it is not illegal for discrimination against Roma due to the fact that they are thieves. This demonstrates it was it was not appropriate that the Court of Appeals should not be able to consider as crimes political initiatives that target illegal actions of minorities. On the 20th of October, 2008, The Appeals’ Court in Venice affirmed the sentence of Tosi to two months imprisonment, with a suspended sentence. The Court gave Tosi 60 days to file the motivation. Tosi has declared it will contest the appeal at the Court of Cassation. On July 11, 2009, the Court decided to sentence Tosi for two months imprisonment , with a suspended sentence. In October 2009, Tosi was found guilty in the Court of Cassation to an amount of 4,000 euros and was banned for three years from public rallies. The sanction did not stop Tosi from being re-elected as the Mayor in Verona on May 12, 2012.

After being the most-voted candidate in the local election (more than 28,000 personal votes) and was later named regional minister of Health in the Galan III’s government. At the age of 36, he is one of rising stars in the LV together with Luca Zaia, who was the Vice President in a specific manner and was soon his principal opponent within the party.

In July 2008 the LV held its national congress in Padua. Tosi unsuccessfully tried to replace Gian Paolo Gobbo as national secretary, but was elected national president instead. Tosi appeared to be also the standard-bearer of the party in view of the 2010 regional election, along with Zaia. However, in December 2009 Tosi had to renounce his bid to become President of Veneto in favour of Zaia, who commanded a larger support in the party’s national council.
