Finbarr Clancy is the sole son of folk singer Bobby Clancy and Moira Mooney in County Tipperary, Ireland. Bobby Clancy, who was traveling along with his Clancy Brothers at the time was the first to announce Finbarr’s birth on David Frost’s talk show on television. Finbarr is the son of famous folk singers Liam Clancy, Paddy Clancy along with Tom Clancy, who helped in the Irish folk revival in the 1960s. Similar to the Clancy Brothers the trio, Finbarr was born within Carrick-on-Suir within County Tipperary.

The year 2008 saw Clancy was a part of the newly formed Irish ballad band, The High Kings, along with Martin Furey, Darren Holden along with Brian Dunphy. The group’s debut self-titled album reached the top spot at the top of the Billboard World Music chart. The year 2013 was the first time The High Kings signed with Sony Music.

In 1996, following the time that Liam Clancy and Robbie O’Connell quit the group, Clancy began touring with his father and uncle Paddy and American artist Eddie Dillon in the final Clancy Brothers lineup. After the death of Paddy in the year 1998, Finbarr continued play with his father in the band The Clancys and Eddie Dillon. Finbarr also performed in four of his dad’s albums prior to Bobby Clancy’s demise in 2002. In the late 2000s, Clancy performed in a group that included Dillon as well as Mark Fitzpatrick.
