Filipe Pinto Basto Soares Franco (born 11 March 1953 in Lisbon) was the 46th president of Sporting CP, one of Portugal’s largest comprehensive sports clubs the second child and daughter of Rui Guedes Soares Franco and Isabel Maria da Camara Ferreira Pinto Basto (Noblemen of the Coat of Arms), of English descent (a descendant of Louis, comte de Narbonne-Lara and the Duke of Loule and Infanta Ana de Jesus Maria of Portugal).
He proposed a candidature for the Portuguese Football Federation on September 7, 2011, but resigned on October 4 because of a lack of support.
On July 5, 2009, his successor was elected to the presidential chair by Jose Eduardo Bettencourt who defeated Paulo Pereira Cristovao.

When its “Project Finance” was defeated in the general assemblies, Soares Franco called for elections, stating that there was no way he could be running in the presidential race. On April 12, 2006, he announced his candidacy. However, on June 2nd, his plan to submit it to Project Finance was not approved by the members of the club, and the candidate did not run for the presidency.
He took over from Antonio Dias da Cunha in 2006 following his resignation in protest against the manager Jose Peseiro. He was elected on April 28th, 2006, with 70percent of vote over Guilherme Lemos as well as Abrantes Mendes.
