He has been the seven time Australian King’s Cup winner, the U23 World Champion, and also a medallist in the senior World Championships.
In 2009, he was selected as a member of make the Australian male senior team as well as in the seven-seat at the 2010 World Championships they missed the A final, and ended up seventh overall. Pragnell was selected as a reserve to the Olympic heavyweight team.

In the following year, he competed in a coxed team at the World Championships in Linz 2008 and won an Olympic bronze medal along with Nick Baxter and steered by Hugh Rawlinson.

Pragnell completed the Australian first appearance as a representative in the coxless four team at the World Rowing U23 Championships in Poznan in 2004. He swung the team of New South Walesmen to win a gold medal in the photo finishing. In 2005 he was selected as an U23 8 who took part in the 2003 World Rowing Cup III in Lucerne prior to competing in the 2005 World Rowing U23 Championships in Amsterdam which they won in eighth position. In 2006, he raced in a coxed quartet at the World Rowing U23 Championships. They won the Silver medal from Hazewinkel.
The first time he was selected as a state representative in New South Wales in the 2005 senior eight , competing in the King’s Cup at the Interstate Regatta as part of the Australian Rowing Championships. He competed in 11 in a row King’s Cup races for New South Wales between 2005 and 2015. He also won seven races from 2008 until 2014. From 2009 until 2015, he was always in the position that set the pace of one stroke, or seven of the New South Wales eight.
From 2013 Pragnell’s King’s Cup teammate Spencer Turrin was the lynchpin in variations of the Australian men’s coxless four who ultimately built a successful campaign to become 2017 World Champions. In 2014 Pragnell joined Turrin, Alex Lloyd and Josh Dunkley-Smith in that boat. They raced at three World Rowing Cups to medal success and then in the August of that year at the 2014 World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam they won the bronze medal.
