Feng Zhenghu (born 1 July 1954) is a Chinese scholar and economist based in Shanghai. In a report by Amnesty International, The Guardian stated the Feng had been “a prominent human rights defender” in China. In the early part of the year 2009 Feng had been detained in the beginning of 2009 for about 41 days. He quit China to seek health treatment in Japan shortly afterward in April 2009. When he tried to return home during June of 2009, Feng was denied entry by authorities. According to the sister of Feng she said that airlines blocked the Chinese-bound flight four times. On the four occasions when he was successful to board an aircraft, Chinese authorities at Shanghai refused to let him in. On 12 February 2010, two days ahead of Chinese New Year, he successfully entered China after arriving on a flight from Narita to Shanghai. Afterwards, he stayed in his Shanghai apartment under guarded house arrest. The Guardian reported in June 2010 that he remained under house arrest. Feng’s house was raided more than 10 times since his return from enforced exile, he has had telephones and 13 computers seized, and has alleged having been physically assaulted and suffers from consequential knee and spine injuries as he has been denied medical treatment.
