Fawad is a native of Rawalpindi, Pakistan and is the youngest of five brothers. He was the son of Muhammad Yaqub, was a Kashmiri immigrant who graduated from Sri Pratap College, Srinagar 1935. Following that, and following the Partition of India and the creation of Pakistan in 1947, his parents made the move to Srinagar in the direction of Sialkot and then later to Rawalpindi which is where they settled.
His work in the financial industry included his position as Senior Advisor Group to JS Group, Executive-in-Charge Infrastructure Development Division Bank Alfalah Limited between August 2005 and November 2006.
Fawad belongs to the Pakistan Administrative Service and is batchmates with Zafarullah Khan (PAS), Shoaib Mir Memon (PAS), Sikandar Sultan Raja (PAS), Rizwan Ahmed (PAS), Jawad Rafique Malik (PAS) and Allah Dino Khawaja (PSP). His work during his tenure as the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of Pakistan from November 2015 to June 2018 was largely focused on the fruition of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor, effectively spearheading multiple infrastructure and energy projects and directing sector-wide investment across the nation.
Fawad was promoted to the rank of Federal Secretary in December 2017.
He was in office from May 1998 until March 1999, and from November 1999 until September 2000 as the Deputy Secretary and Principal Staff Officer to the Chief Secretary of Punjab. Fawad was in office from December 2001 until September 2002, as the Additional Secretary Services and General Administration Department Punjab. He was employed from April 2008 until the end of November as Secretary Services, and General Administration Punjab. From November 2008 until February 2010, he served as the Secretary of Communication and Works Punjab. From February 2010 through April 2011 he was serving as the Secretary of Health Punjab. Fawad was Secretary Excise and Taxation Punjab between July of 2011 until July 2012.

Fawad Hasan Fawad (Urdu Fawad Hasan Fawad (Urdu: fwd Hs Fwd ) (born on 14th January, 1960) is former Pakistani civil service official who was in BPS-22 in the position of Principal Secretary of two Prime Ministers: Nawaz Sharif, and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
Fawad was educated in 1982 as an attorney from the University of Punjab and also received two years of managerial instruction (1987-89) in the Civil Services Academy, Lahore. Fawad earned his LLM on corporate finance at King’s College London, in 2001. He also received the British Council Chevening Scholarship.
Fawad served as Secretary to Chief Minister Punjab (Implementation), and Punjab from July 2012 to April 2013. Fawad served as Joint Secretary, Economic Affairs Division from April 2013 to June 4, 2013. From July 1994 to March 1997, Fawad Hasan Fawad served as Deputy Commissioner Quetta and Lahore; being the youngest individual to do so in Pakistan’s history. He also served as Principal Staff Officer to Principal Secretary to Prime Minister of Pakistan and Deputy Secretary to Chief Secretary Balochistan. Earlier, he served as Assistant Commissioner in Quetta and Hub from August 1989 to January 1993.
