Faraz Waqar is one of the most popular and richest Writer who was born on January 21, 1976 in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. The silent film era was over when the declaration of independence for Pakistan after 1947. The country was able to inherit an industry of film that was a part during the British Raj (based mainly in the city of Lahore) that had produced ‘talkies’ or sound films from the 1930s. It was the Pakistani cinema industry (also now referred to as Lollywood) consequently didn’t produce silent films until 2013, when Waqar finished his Meeoww Billi in the midst of World War 3. This film was an artistic endeavor which is inspired by the period of silent cinema, and also carries the message of a political campaign. It is considered to be the first silent film to be made in the history of film in Pakistan.
Born in Karachi, Waqar has been an active filmmaker since 2012. The film he made 9:11 AM was one of only two Pakistani films that were featured during the Cannes Film Festival in 2012 in France. The film 911 am was also included in the official Selection in of 2012, at the Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival of Mississauga (MISAFF) in Canada as well as the Gandhara Film Festival located in Pakistan.
Waqar completed Pakistan’s first silent film titled Meeoww Billi aur World War 3 in September 2013. The film is an artistic experiment inspired by the age of silent cinema of the 1920s with a global political message about the Middle East. Meeoww Billi aur World War 3 has been selected for screening at international film festivals in 2013–2014.
In August 2013, Waqar produced and directed an experimental music film tribute to Pakistan’s and the sub-continent’s pop music singer Nazia Hassan. The video, titled Imagineer, was released on the thirteenth anniversary of her death. It highlighted Hassan’s contribution to South Asian pop and Bollywood film music.
With his prior background and expertise with Brand Marketing, Waqar has in the past been involved in the development of commercial radio, television and print ads for multinational as well as Pakistani brands. The year 2002 was the time Waqar worked as part of his Brand Marketing team responsible for developing, producing and directing the inaugural Lux Style Awards for Unilever in Pakistan. In 2002, the Lux Style Awards is today considered to be one of the top Pakistani annual awards shows.
