Farah Pandith (Kashmiri FH pnddth ) (born on January 13, 1968) is an American academic. She was named the first Special Representative for Muslim Communities in June 2009 by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. The job was specifically created for her after she had briefed Secretary Clinton about her experience in that of the Bush Administration. She had the unique privilege of being a political appointment for two Republican presidents as well as the President Obama. As the Special Representative, she went to more than 100 countries. Following her time under both Secretary Clinton as well as John Kerry, she left the government. She stated that she moved to Washington following the 9/11 attacks and was determined to continue her work but she was fired after more than decade of public service. She was employed at USAID before moving to the National Security Council and then the U.S. Department of State. After she quit after 2014, she went back the state she grew up in, Massachusetts.

Farah Pandith received a master’s degree from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, where she specialized in International Security Studies, Islamic Civilizations and Southwest Asia, and International Negotiation and Conflict Resolution. She received an A.B. in Government and Psychology from Smith College, where she was president of the student body. She was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Mount Saint Mary’s University in 2017 and an honorary Doctor of Laws from Tufts University in 2018.
