He is the former Alumni Council President at University of Virginia School of Law, a University of Virginia School of Law Business Advisory Council member and a member of the University of Virginia Law School Foundation Board of Trustees.

He has been President of the Roanoke Museum of Fine Arts. In 2005, he became a member of the executive committee of the board of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and in 2006, he became chairman of the development committee. As Chairman of the Board of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, he helped steer the Orchestra through difficult financial times in 2008 and immediately following years. Under his leadership, the Orchestra secured a loan from the Norfolk Economic Development Authority and avoided bankruptcy. As of May 2015, he continued to serve as a member of the Virginia Symphony Foundation Board of Directors.

After completing his internship during 1979. Blair Wimbush began his railway career in the year 1980 as lawyer for Norfolk and Western Railway Company in the two years prior to it was merged into Southern Railway Company, as the subsidiaries that are part of Norfolk Southern Corporation. He rose through a variety of senior positions within the Norfolk Southern Law Department, including the position of General Counsel – Operations as well as the Senior General Counsel. In addition that he worked on, he was instrumental in the development of an EPA’s Clean Air Act Locomotive Emissions Standards in 1997. Frederick Blair Wimbush (born July 24 1955) has retired as an American attorney and railroad executive. He is an active and respected leader in the field of civic and professional leadership. From 1980 until 2004 Wimbush was promoted to positions with greater responsibility within his position in the Norfolk and Western Railway Company and Norfolk Southern Corporation’s Law Departments, including the position of Senior General Counsel at the time of 2002. He was appointed Vice-President, Real Estate of Norfolk Southern Corporation which is the which is the parent company that is part of Norfolk Southern Railway Company. He was elected Vice President in the month of November 2007. was the first and, as from August 11, 2012, the only, senior- level Corporate Sustainability Officer within the railway industry as well as his real estate job. He was responsible for several major green and conservation initiatives for the company. He also addressed sustainability issues for the company at a variety of academic and corporate conferences. He has retired as a director of Norfolk Southern Corporation after 35 years of service on May 1st 2015. Wimbush was in the board of directors of Hampton Roads Association of Commercial Real Estate, Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance and the Monarch Bank Norfolk City Board. In April of 2015 Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe announced that Wimbush was selected to join his Virginia Port Authority Board. On June 24 on June 24, 2016 Governor McAuliffe appointed Wimbush for a five-year appointment that expires June 30, 2021.

Wimbush earned the B.A. in Political Science in 1977 from the University of Rochester in 1977 and also a Juris Doctor in law from The University of Virginia School of Law in the year 1980. He was a student at an academic program at the Duke University Fuqua School of Business, Norfolk Southern Management Development Program in 1996. He also took part in his six-week Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School.

Wimbush also led Norfolk Southern’s participation in the GreenTrees (a privately managed reforestation and carbon sequestration program) initiative: Trees and Trains.
