Eyal Karim is one of the most popular and richest Military Officer who was born on February 8, 1957 in Israel. Eyal Moshe Karim (Hebrew: Ayyl mSHh krym ) (born 8 February 1957) is the head of the Military Rabbinate of the Israel Defense Forces.

The year 2006 was the time he agreed to the suggestion of Rabbi Avichai Rontzki The Chief Rabbi for the IDF returning to the army. Following the return of his troops, he was appointed as head of the proper group (Shiluv HaRa’uy) and later as director of the Halacha section of the Military Rabbinate.

In November 2016, the Meretz MKs released a statement saying they accepted Karim’s explanation, and withdrew their petition.

In 2016, Karim was nominated to serve as the head of the Military Rabbinate of the IDF. The nomination was criticized over remarks made in 2002 in which Karim appeared to suggest that soldiers were allowed to rape Gentile women during wartime, and that women were forbidden from serving in the IDF. After the controversy, Karim said that his remarks about rape during wartime were not meant to apply in the modern era. Meretz leader Zehava Gal-On said Karim was not “suitable” for the role because of the remarks. Yair Lapid said Karim should disavow his remarks, and he should not be the chief military rabbi.

From 1985 until 1994, the rabbis studied from 1985 to 1994 at Ateret Cohanim, where he received the rabbinic ordination. From 1995 to 1999 was a teacher in the military academy prior to it (mechina) at the yeshiva. He was later named as director for the mechina, a post that he held until the year 2004.

Karim was born at Givatayim, Israel, and attended Yeshivat Bnei Akiva. The summer of 1975 was the year that Karim was drafted. when his enlistment to the IDF and volunteered to be an armed paratrooper with the Paratroopers Brigade, and in 1985 he became an infantry officer after having completed the Officer Candidate School. He was a leader of the platoon in the 202 Paratroop Battalion, and as an officer in the company of his commander.

He left the country in 1981 and was granted a time off and he attended his Mercaz HaRav Yeshiva. Following the Lebanon war, he was appointed as the commander of a unit within the elite Sayeret Matkal unit. In 1983-84, he served as the commander of paratroops. From 1985 to 2005, he was serving as a commander , with his rank as lieutenant colonel within the Division of Fire in reserve.

In December 2016, Karim was sworn in as IDF chief rabbi and awarded the rank of brigadier general.
