Evelyn Regner (born 24 January 1966) is an Austrian politician and a Member of the European Parliament from Austria. She is an active part of the Social Democratic Party of Austria which is part of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.

In her current term and after being reelected at the end of 2014 Regner was appointed the chair for the Committee on Legal Affairs for the S&D group and substituting member to the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs and a substitute members of the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM). In addition she is a member of the Delegation for relations with members in the Andean Community, the Trade Union Intergroup as well as of the Delegation for relations with the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly and as a substitute participant in the Delegation to the Joint EU-Chile Parliamentary Committee. Additionally, she was elected as a part of the special committee of parliament for tax-related rulings (TAXE) on February of 2015. Alongside her committee tasks, Regner is a member of the European Parliament Intergroup on Western Sahara.

In July 2009 this mother of 2 kids was elected as the first membre of the European Parliament and has been representing the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPO) and an official member of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats group in the EU between the 7th, and the current 8th term of the legislative term.

Regner grew up in the second district of Vienna and went to school at Sigmund- Freud-Gymnasium. She completed her gymnasium studies and continued to pursue a law degree at the Universities of Vienna as well as Salzburg. After graduating from law at Salzburg’s University of Salzburg and finishing the clerkship she worked for Amnesty International as a refugee consultant from 1992 to 1993.

The next few years Evelyn Regner built up her career as a lawyer in the Social Department of the Austrian Trade Union Federation (OGB) before being appointed the head of OGB’s Brussels office for its permanent representative for Austria in the EU in 1999. In the period from January 2009 to when she became a member of the European Parliament, she was appointed the director for the department responsible for EU and International Affairs of the Austrian Trade Federation.

Her functions during the 7th legislative term of the European Parliament included those of the vice-chairwoman of the Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI), substitute member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL), substitute member of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO), member of the Delegation for relations with the countries of the Andean Community and substitute member of the Delegation in Israel. In addition to her committee assignments, Regner was a member of the European Parliament’s Advisory Committee on the Conduct of Members from 2012 until 2014.
