He is the sole child of Miltiadis Marinkis as well as Irini Marinaki (nee Karakatsani). The father of Miltiadis Marinakis, Miltiadis Marinakis, was born in Crete. He was an owner of a ship, a member of the Greek Parliament, and often as a financial backer to Piraeus soccer club Olympiacos. His mother, who hails from Pontus is an ancestor to his family, the Ypsilantis family.
Since mid-2010, Marinakis has been the owner of Piraeus The team of his hometown, Olympiacos and also serves as the team’s President. Marinakis was head of Superleague Greece and vice-president of the Hellenic Football Federation (HFF) from August 2010 to September 11, 2011. In his time as president of Olympiacos the team, they won the Greek League title for seven consecutive seasons, from 2010-11 until 2016-17. In 2015, the Public Prosecutor and the Council of Judges acquitted Marinakis in relation to the Koriopolis match-fixing investigation, that begun in 2011, that was launched after UEFA gave Greek authorities a report citing irregular betting patterns, mostly involving Greek Cup and second division games in 2009 and 2010. He was accused of participating in a match-fixing criminal network with links with seven countries. At the time, UEFA officials said no action was presently being considered against Olympiacos regarding its participation in the Champions League in the following season, because evidence in the Greek investigation cast no doubt over its 2010–11 league victory. Marinakis was charged with complicity to commit acts of bribery and match manipulation, of instigation and facilitating acts of violence. Marinakis, along with the president of second-division club Ilioupoli, Giorgos Tsakogiannis and others, cooperated so that a group of hardcore Olympiacos fans would travel on 13 March 2011 to a third division match and provoke riots to bring about a penalty. The prosecutor’s report says that “Tsakogiannis informed [Ioannis] Papadopoulos that he had made arrangements and Evangelos Marinakis was aware of the plan for Olympiacos fans to cause riots”. Marinakis was acquitted from all charges by the Prosecutor, Panagiotis Poulios, and the Council of Judges.
On 21 February 2011, Olympiacos beat Panathinaikos in Karaiskaki Stadium (2–1), after a controversial, regarding the referee’s decisions, game. After the game, player Djibril Cissé had a wrangle with Olympiacos’ president Marinakis. He was beaten by Olympiakos’ fans and stated that he was going to appeal to the UEFA. The case of Cissé and Marinakis went to the Greek courts, where Marinakis was found innocent.
Under his presidency, Olympiacos FC, has been able to provide meals for thousands of people every week by donating to the benevolent fund from “Genesios Theotokos” parish in the Athens suburb of Nikaia and the Syros Holy Church. In the year 2010, Olympiacos hosted an UNDP Match Against Poverty which brought in over $500,000 for earthquake-stricken Haiti as well as Pakistan. Around a thousand portions of food and clothing items were given out every day to refugees who were stranded on the Port of Piraeus. On February 14, 2014, Olympiakos made a donation of EUR500,000 to school repairs on The Greek island Cephalonia that was struck by devastating earthquakes. In October of 2013, Olympiacos and UNICEF launched an alliance to provide vaccinations to children living in countries that are developing, with UNICEF’s logo appearing on jerseys of the players with the aim for raising EUR2 million over two years. In August 2017 Olympiacos announced this partnership was to be extended, with an emphasis on a fresh multi-year campaign. On June 12, 2012 Marinakis purchased Greek national debt, which had an estimated value of 1,364,000 euros by donating EUR168,590 in behalf of each of Olympiacos 55 Greek players and staff as well as Peter Nomikos’ NGO ‘Greece Debt Free’ (GDF). The club has previously Olympiacos was a supporter of its Japan earthquake relief fund and has also acted as a supporter to the non-profit environmental group Arcturos, the children’s clinics at ‘St. Sofia’ in Athens as well as the General Hospital in Limassol and other blood collection programs, Greek and international children’s charities, such as Elpida, the ‘Steven Gerrard Foundation’, and the “Hatzikyriakos Foundation”. Marinakis is currently working on creating the Olympiacos foundation for charity.

Evangelos Marinakis (Greek: Euaggelos (Baggeles) Marinakes born on July 30, 1967) is a Greek shipowner who is also a member of the Piraeus city council. It is his company that owns two football club Olympiacos located in Greece as well as Nottingham Forest in England.
From 1992 until in 2005 Marinakis served as commercial director for Capital Ship Management Corp. and managed the operations of the company group which now comprise Capital Maritime. In the last few decades, he was also involved in other family-owned companies all relating to shipping.
From March 2010 until September 2011, Marinakis also served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NYSE-listed Crude Carriers Corp. Between March 2007 and December 2014 he was chairman of Capital Product Partners L.P. (NASDAQ:CPLP). In May 2014, Marinakis was elected first member of the Piraeus city council with the Piraeus Winner independent ticket, that he co-founded with Yannis Moralis, vice-president of Olympiacos F.C.. Among their pledges were the preservation of the public nature of Piraeus Port Authority and the development of Piraeus as Europe’s largest cruise ship destination and home port. During the elections, his political opponent, Vassilis Michaloliakos, claimed Marinakis was related with the far right political party Golden Dawn and accused him for its financial support.
