Eva Brunne is one of the most popular and richest Priest who was born on March 7, 1954 in Malmö, Skåne, Sweden. Brunne was born in Malmo which is where she lived her entire life on the 7th of March in 1954. After graduation, she became an theology professor studying theology at Lund University. She was ordained priest in 1978. In 1978, she began serving as a priest in the Diocese Lund which is Sweden’s southernmost provinces, Blekinge as well as Scania. Brunne began her first year during her time as a priest at Karlskrona, Blekinge. After her appointment in 1980 as Secretary General for the Swedish Student Christian Movement, Brunne moved to her permanent home in Stockholm. Before taking over the role as vicar of Sundbyberg church in the year 1990, she served as the bishop’s chaplain for the university and as bishop’s adviser. After eight years as vicar at Sundbyberg, Brunne spent another eight years as the vicar of Flemingsberg. She was appointed in 2000 to was appointed the head of the Huddinge as well as Botkyrka deanery. She served as such until the year 2006.
In October of 2010 Bishop Brunne participated in a protest against the racism that was taking place in Stockholm following the nationalism of the Sweden Democrats party entered the Riksdag. The next date, Brunne mentioned the demonstrations in a sermon at the traditional church which was held prior to the opening ceremony of the Riksdag. In reaction, Jimmie Akesson and other members of the party walked from the building. Akesson claimed that the Bishop had clearly targeted his party during her speech. Brunne claimed that the speech was directed at one particular party.
As a clergy member as a member of the Chapter for the Lutheran Diocese in Stockholm from 1997 to 2005, she was elected the Diocese’s dean in the year 2006. On May 26, 2009 Brunne was appointed Bishop of Stockholm replacing Caroline Krook. Brunne is the first openly lesbian bishop of the world and the first bishop from the Church of Sweden to have lived in a legal homosexual relationship. Brunne won the election with four13 to 365. She stated: “It is very positive that our church is setting an example here and is choosing me as bishop based on my qualifications, when they also know that they can meet resistance elsewhere.” In the website for the Church of Sweden, Brunne wrote: “I know what it is to be called into question. I am in the lucky situation that I have power, and I can use it for the benefit of those who have no power.”

Gerd Eva Cecilia Brunne (born 7 March 1954) is a bishop of the Church of Sweden. She was the bishop from Stockholm from 2009 to the year 2019. She was the first bishop who is openly lesbian of a major church around the world, and also the first bishop from Sweden’s Church of Sweden to be part of a legally recognized same-sex partnership.
From 2001 onward, Brunne was in an official relationship with Gunilla Linden who is also an ordained minister of the Church of Sweden. The couple’s marriage was granted an official blessing from the church and the couple has a son born in. 2005.
In September 2015 Brunne proposed the removal of symbols of Christianity, including crosses, from the Seamen’s Church in Stockholm Harbor, to open the church to worshipping sailors of all beliefs, and to mark the direction of Mecca as a service to Muslim visitors. As the Seamen’s Church is an independent foundation and, while in Stockholm, not part of Brunne’s Diocese of Stockholm, Kicki Wetterberg, the head of the Seamen’s Church, rejected the suggestion in an interview with Dagen, stating that she had “no problem with Muslim or Hindu sailors worshipping in the church, but the church will keep its crosses, being a Christian church”.
