Statehood Green Party. In both the elections of 2008 as well as the 2015 United States presidential elections, Puryear was vice president candidate of the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL).

Statehood Green Party candidate for the At-Large City Council seat held at the time by Anita Bonds. Puryear’s campaign outlined an agenda of 10 points that details some of the policies adopted by Puryear. On April 1st, 2014, Puryear was the winner of the nomination for the Republican Party and defeated G. Lee Aikin, 67.3 percent to 25.1 percent. On November 4 4, 2014 Puryear came in sixth place out of the 14 candidates in the general election.

Puryear writes regularly for Liberation News, the newspaper of the Party for Socialism and Liberation. He has co-edited some of the PSL’s books, such as Imperialism in the 21st Century: Updating Lenin’s Theory a Century Later. He is also the host of the daily political talk show By Any Means Necessary, on Radio Sputnik.

In November of 2010, RT interviewed Puryear regarding socialism in the United States. Puryear has been in RT in the past to talk about U.S. foreign policy and the Middle East.
