Between 1998 and 2000, she served as the first chairman of ICANN which is which is the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. In 2004 she was on the “reform” committee, dedicated to defining the role of people in ICANN’s decision-making process and management structures. She was against the expansion of ICANN’s general top-level domains (gTLDs). She has closely followed the post-Soviet transition in Eastern Europe, from 2002 until 2012, she was a part of the Bulgarian President’s IT Advisory Council, along with Vint Cerf, George Sadowsky and Veni Markovski, to name a few. She was trustee of and has helped to fund new organizations like Glasses for Humanity, Bridges.org as well as The National Endowment for Democracy, and the Eurasia Foundation. She is on The Board of Directors for The After-School Corporation, a non-profit organization that aims to expand the opportunities for education to all children. She is also a part on the board of Sunlight Foundation, StopBadware, The Long Now Foundation.
