Esko Aho is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on May 20, 1954 in Veteli, Central Ostrobothnia, Finland. Esko Tapani Aho (born 20 May 1954) is an Finnish politician, who was the Prim Minister of Finland between 1991 and 1995.

Aho was the premier minister of the center-right coalition government (Centre Party, National Coalition Party, Christian Democrats and Swedish People’s Party) from 1991 until 1995. Most famously, he was known for his leadership role in leading Finland to join joining the European Union. Aho’s party, which gathered the most support among rural communities, was among the largest opponent to EU membership of the major parties. The main reason for their opposition was the state of agriculture however they were able to convince them by the diplomatic efforts of the premier. Finland submitted a request for EU membership on the 16th of March 1992, and a referendum was held two and one-half years after. Aho’s government also faced the economic crisis that ravaged the country in the 1990s’ early years. Despite a dramatic increase in the country’s debt The Aho government implemented a stringent cut-and-save strategy that rendered it not popular. This was partly responsible for its decline in the election of 1995 as well as the the eight-year time frame of the Centre Party in opposition.

It was announced by Nokia in August 2008 that Aho would be joining Nokia as Executive Vice President of Corporate Relations and Responsibility and become a member of its executive board. He took up these positions on 1 November 2008.

In 2008, Aho’s name was included in an opinion poll of possible Presidential candidate, which he ranked last.

Aho was the first to be elected in the eduskunta (Finnish Parliament of Finland) in 1983. He was appointed chairman of the Centre Party in 1990, which was held until 2002. The Centre Party is one of the three main politics in Finland.

Aho was born in Veteli, Finland. Prior to his university studies and pursuing a profession in the political arena. From 1974 to 1979 he served as Chairman of the Finnish Centre Youth, which had prior to him pushed numerous of his predecessors into the top of the political ladder. In 1978, Aho was an elector for the President and was also held in the years 1982 and 1998. From 1979 until 1980 Aho was the Political Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1980 until 1983, he served as an ambassador for trade in the Kannus city.

Aho attended his school, Helsingin Yiliopisto (University of Helsinki) where she earned the master of social Science degree in 1981.

Esko Aho lost the bid for President of Finland to Tarja Halonen in 2000. After that he retired from active politics in the early initially through a “sabbatical leave” of one year to lecture at Harvard University (where he was resident fellow at the Institute of Politics). In the 2003 election he left parliament and retired from daily politics. He then served as the president of the SITRA, the Finnish National Fund for Research and Development (the state innovation fund).
