Erki Pehk is one of the most popular and richest Conductor who was born on March 23, 1968 in Võru, Estonia. Erki Pehk (born 23 March 1968) is an Estonian conductor and artistic director of the opera musical festival PromFest.
Since 2001, Erki Pehk was appointed the artistic director of the Klaudia Taev Competition that is open to the upcoming singers from Parnu, Estonia. He was inspired to create the opera as the prize of choice for those who won the competition. After the initial production Rigoletto which was performed in 2003 in response to the increasing capacities of competition the director decided to establish Parnu International Opera Music Festival PromFest. PromFest in 2005. He has continued to be the director of the festival’s artistic department it until the present. After Rigoletto he produced and directed The Demon (2005), Carmen (2007), Thais (2009), Attila (2011) and Tsar’s Wedding (2013), Aida (2015), La Traviata (2017) and I Capuleti e i Montecchi (2019).
Erki Pehk has been the Permanent Guest Conductor of The Symphony Orchestra of the National State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Belarus 2010-2017. The most active collaboration he has with the Kaunas State Musical Theatre (since 2011) and with the Ukrainian National Chamber Ensemble “Kyiv Soloists” (since 2016). Also he has built up his reputation as an orchestra and opera conductor performing throughout the Europe with music theaters of France (Opéra de Rennes, Angers-Nantes Opéra, Lithuania (Kaunas State Musical Theatre), Germany (Erfurt Theater), Bulgaria (Burgas and Varna Opera), Belarus (National Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre), and working in Germany, the Netherlands (including gala concert in Amsterdam Concertgebouw with Nederlands Opera Studio), Finland, Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Hungary, Iceland and France.
In January 2000, Erki Pehk founded the project that was based on in the 21st Century Orchestra in Tallinn to create musical projects of alternative nature, whose music styles ranged from baroque to rock. The most notable performances were those with Countertenor Max Emanuel Cencic and violinist Tatiana Grindenko, the symphonic rock concert featuring the famous Estonian band Ruja in the Song Festival Square in Tallinn the series of concerts on TV that is voluntary and celebrating World AIDS Day with numerous Estonian and foreign musicians recorded at St.Charles Church (Kaarli Kirik) in Tallinn and taking part in a variety of big-scale musical productions staged through Smithbridge Productions in Tallinn Linnahall (City Concert Hall) such as La cage aux Folles (1999), Tanz der Vampire (2000), Les Miserables (2001), Miss Saigon (2002), Crazy for You (2004), Cinderella (2005) as well as other performances and performances.

In 1982, he relocated to Tallinn to study conductor and piano studies at Tallinn Music High School. Following his graduation in 1986, he began to study conducting choirs under Professor. Ants Uleoja and orchestra conducting with Peeter Lilje at the Tallinn Conservatoire (now Estonian Academy of Music). Prior to graduating in the year 1993, he was studying orchestra conducting at the Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music together with Paul Magi (years 1992-1994). Erki Pehk has honed his musical abilities in Kirill Kondrashin Conductors Masterclass in 1990 in Hilversum (teacher Hiroyuki Iwaki) and later during the Interpretation Course in Stuttgart led by John Eliot Gardiner in 1991 and in the opera class in the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with Prof. Mauritz Sillem in 1997.
In his time as a student Erki Pehk was the conductor of semi-professional Tallinn Town Hall Chamber Choir (1989-1995) and was then invited to instruct choir conductors in 1991 at Tallinn Music High School, which is the same school from which he graduated five years ago. Pehk taught the next generation of choir conductors until 1997, when he resigned from this position due to his growing workload at Estonian National Opera, where Pehk was employed from 1994 to 2011 conducting ballets, operas and musicals, and operettas such as La traviata, Carmen, Rigoletto, La belle Helene, The Firebird, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Die Fledermaus, Die Lustige Witwe, Wiener Blut, Die Czardasfurstin, Hello, Dolly! and many more.
For artistic achievements with the festival PromFest and for the production of Thaïs by Massenet, Erki Pehk was given the Estonian Theatre Union Musical Production Award in 2010.
