After graduation from high secondary school Land became a member of her first job in the United States Army in which she obtained the Pharmacy Technician technical degree MOS class 68Q. Her station was Fort Leonard Wood for basic training, Fort Sam Houston for Advanced Individual Training (AIT), Fort Sam Houston for Advanced Individual Training (AIT), and Fort Lewis, before being posted with the 47th Combat Support Hospital to FOB Diamondback in Mosul, Iraq, and then to FOB Diamondback in Iraq, and finally Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Her awards comprise the two Army Achievement medals as well as one of which is the Army Superior Unit award, the National Defense Service medal, the Global War on Terrorism service medal as well as the Iraq Campaign medal with campaign star and the Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon.

Land was a suicide attempt multiple times, only to be saved by what she refers to as the “divine intervention”. Following her final attempt, she began an effort to inform the general public about PTSD through the medium of poetry. She came across poetry after hearing the lyrics of a song that brought her to tears. It prompted her to pen her very first poetry, “War Song”. After publishing it, and several others, she enrolled in the degree of English at The University of Georgia. Her first performance of poetry took place at The Globe the local bar in Athens in the event of Word of Mouth. Her first collection was self-published Residual Effects, along alongside photographer Katisha Smittick , in 2013. In the hopes to win the Pulitzer Prize for poetry, Land published a selection of her war-related poems with brand new work as a solo project called Georgia’s Dam. Following her return after a trip to Mosul, Iraq in 2006, Land was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). When she was diagnosed in the month of February, 2009, she was formally removed of the Army and was transferred into Athens, Georgia to pursue the profession of pharmacy. Land was unable to find her passion for medicine as she searched for ways to ease her PTSD.
