Erik Robert Fleming (born February 2nd 1965) is an American politician who served as a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives representing the 72nd District (which comprises portions of Hinds and Madison counties) from 1999 to 2008. The politician was also the Democratic candidate for one Mississippi’s two U.S. Senate seats. He was up against the incumbent Republican Thad Cochran on November 4, 2008 general election and was defeated. Erik is now the Director of Policy for the Mississippi chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and continues to work for the people of Mississippi.

Fleming ran against incumbent U.S. senator Trent Lott in the November 2006 election. Four candidates ran in the June 6th 2006 Democratic primary. Fleming was born in Chicago, Illinois to Joan and Robert Fleming, and attended Lindblom Technical High School. He studied political sciences at Jackson State University, became an elder twin brother to Alpha Phi Omega while there which he graduated from in the year 1987. Fleming was involved with Mississippi Governor Ray Mabus in his 1987 campaign, and with Mike Parker in his campaign for the U.S. Congress in 1988.
