Fedde received a promotion to major leagues in order to begin the first game in a double-header with the Colorado Rockies on July 30 2017.. On August 7, Fedde was optioned back to Syracuse following his return Gio Gonzalez from paternity leave.
Fedde was thought to be an elite prospect in the 2014 Major League Baseball draft, and the Nationals chose Fedde in the initial round. He was ranked 18th overall. The Nationals signed him to the Nationals on the 18th of July at $2.51 million. Fedde didn’t play in 2014 due injuries. He played in 2015 for each of the Auburn Doubledays and the Hagerstown Suns where the team posted a 5-3 record and a 3.38 ERA between the two teams. Fedde played at Las Vegas High School in Sunrise Manor, Nevada. It was where he played pitcher as well as an outfielder. His teammates included Bryce Harper, a catcher who later would become one of the players selected in 2010’s Major League Baseball draft’s top overall selection, as well the future Fedde Nationals teammate. He was selected with the San Diego Padres in the 24th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft, but he didn’t sign, and was enrolled at in the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
Fedde began 15 games in his freshman year in 2012. He ended the year 6-5, with an 3.59 earned run-adjusted (ERA) with 66 striking outs in 90/3 innings. As an undergraduate 2013 he pitched in 15 games, and was 7-5, with an 3.92 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 96/3 innings. In the summer, pitching season, he played on the United States collegiate national team and played briefly in an collegiate summer league within the Cape Cod Baseball League for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. In his debut start of the 2014 season, he hit a record high 11 batters, and only allowed one hit. Then, in May of 2014 Fedde went through Tommy John operation, which ended his season. The season ended 8-2, with an 1.76 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 76/3 innings.
During the Nationals’ 2017 season, with the team struggling with its bullpen during the first half, Fedde was temporarily moved to a relief role. While pitching out of the bullpen, he was promoted from Class-AA Harrisburg to the Class-AAA Syracuse Chiefs on June 13, 2017. After less than a month, Fedde was switched back to starting. The move proved fortuitous for the Nationals, who lost Joe Ross from their rotation in July after he tore his ulnar collateral ligament of the elbow and saw veteran starter Stephen Strasburg lose time due to a nerve impingement in his throwing arm.
