Eric Tingstad (born December 16 1954) is an American record producer as well as songwriter, musician and composer. He was was raised in Seattle, Washington. He is most well-known for his fingerstyle guitarist Tingstad has recorded, performed and released blues, country Americana, rock, ambient, smooth jazz as well as New Age music. Tingstad often collaborates with woodwinds guitarist Nancy Rumbel as Tingstad and Rumbel.

In 1987, Tingstad was signed to a multi-album agreement in 1987 with Narada Productions which led to 14 records from 1987 to 2004. The catalog is managed and distributed via EMI Capitol. In 1988, Tingstad and Rumbel joined forces along with pianist David Lanz to form the Woodlands trio that resulted in an album with the highest sales, called Woodlands.

Tingstad won a Grammy Award for Best New Age Album in 2003 as artist, engineer, and producer of Tingstad and Rumbel’s, Acoustic Garden.

By a vote of his peers, he was honored in October 2006 with the Coyote Award from Arts Northwest commemorating his leadership, visibility, and contributions in live performance. He is also known for his philanthropic and community service work for historical preservation, land trust, and environmental issues which he has incorporated into his compositional themes and branding.

He formed working with woodwinds musician Nancy Rumbel. The first album The Gift, an Acoustic Christmas album that was well-received with a sales of 10,000 copies in the first 10 weeks. The Gift continued to sell more than one million copies and continues to be a top-selling Christmas album.

In the late 1970s, as he played the lead guitar and bass in the Seattle-based rock group Pegasus, Tingstad began studies with masters of techniques developed by Spanish classical guitarist and pioneer Andres Segovia. These techniques, along with his own ideas has shaped the style of Tingstad as well as the compositions for instrumentals which he’s known. His inventive work has led Will Ackerman, founder of Windham Hill Records and Windham Hill Records to come up with Windham Hill Records and the Windham Hill Guitar Sampler series. In 1998 the double album, American Acoustic was honored as “Acoustic Instrumental Album of the Year”. It debuted at number one on Adult Contemporary charts and spent ten weeks on the Billboard radio charts. In 2000, Tingstad & Rumbel were invited to perform at Carnegie Hall.
