In a state of not being able to find a team, Quill turned to coaching and was the assistant coach and recruitment coordinator for teams of women’s soccer of Houston’s University of Houston in 2007 and 2008.

Quill instantly took over the Wizards left midfield spot However, a series of injuries limited his time in the position to just 13 games and one assist in the season. After recovering in 2003 the year that Quill was a star in his season, playing in 25 games, scoring seven assists. But, Quill was traded in the offseason to the Dallas Burn along with Carey Talley in exchange for Shavar Thomas. Quill was not a great player as a member of the Burn however, even though he was able to beat Brad Davis for his left midfield spot, he only had three assists and one goal during the season. Quill was dismissed by the club in early 2005 and joined the MetroStars in August. Quill got released from the team in the month of November of 2005.

A superb young soccer player Quill received a deal with Ajax Amsterdam as a teenager however, he declined the chance to travel to Europe. Instead, he remained at home in the United States, following the standard route by attending Clemson University in order to participate in the college soccer league in the year 1996. After scoring five goals and six assists in his first season with the Tigers however, Quill decided to go professional, signing the Project-40 contract with MLS.

In that year, he played in 25 games, scoring eleven assists and five goals. Quill returned and played as good in 2001, and finished the season by scoring two goals with eight assists over 23 games. The Mutiny were sold at the close of 2001, Quill was a part of the team, and Quill was picked as the fourth pick in the Kansas City Wizards in the 2002 Dispersal Draft for the MLS.

In early 2009, Quill was coaxed out of semi-retirement to play in the Premier Development League for Houston Leones, where he was expected to lend his experience to the team’s midfield.
