Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih is one of the most popular and richest Indonesian physician who was born on February 1, 1955 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih (1 February 1955 – 2 May 2012) was an Indonesian medical doctor, researcher and writer. She was the Minister of Health in Indonesia from October 22, 2009 until May 2, 2012. Republic of Indonesia from October 22nd in 2009 until her demise on May 2, 2012.
On the 22nd of October, 2009 Sedyaningsih has been appointed Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. She then joined his cabinet, which is known as”the Second Unified Indonesia Cabinet. She was appointed to succeed her former supporter as well as boss Siti Fadillah Supari , who had initially expressed her displeasure over the appointment of Sedyaningsih to be her successor.
In October 2010 she was diagnosed with lung cancer and underwent extensive treatment. On April 20, 2012, she was admitted to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (Rumah Sakit Cipto Mangunkusumo, RSCM) due to continuous pain. On April 26, 2012, when President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono visited her in the hospital, she tendered her resignation as Minister of Health due to ill-health. On April 30, 2012, Keputusan Presiden (Presidential Decree) No. 46/P/2012 was signed by President Yudhoyono, ending Sedyaningsih’s term as Indonesia’s Minister of Health.
Sedyaningsih was an investigator in the Center of Disease Control Research and Program Development, NIHRD for over 10 years. In 2001, for six months she was in the World Health Organization Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. From 1997 until 2006, Sedyaningsih worked in a prominent position at the headquarters of the World Health Organization in Geneva as a technical adviser within the division of infectious diseases monitoring and response. She was named director of the Center of Biomedical Research and Program Development, NIHRD in 2007. Sedyaningsih received praise by her colleagues for her bravery when she contributed to the development of an innovative GISAID sharing mechanism. She has played an important part in global health.

Sedyaningsih earned her Medical degree from 1979, at her Faculty of Medicine at the University of Indonesia, and her Master of Public Health (MPH) and Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degrees in Social Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health in 1997.
Sedyaningsih started her professional career in 1979 as an internist at the Jakarta Pertamina Hospital. She joined the public health services in the year 1980, and was employed within remote locations as head of Waipare Health Center in East Nusa Tenggara for three years.
