Ena Von Baer was a student at Temuco’s German school The Colegio Aleman de Temuco. Then, she moved into Santiago the following year to pursue a degree in Journalism in Santiago’s Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. She was married in 1998. got married Eduardo Frohlich, a civil engineer, and have two kids. Following her wedding she travelled to Germany to earn a master’s degree as well as doctorate of political science at RWTH Aachen University.
After her return in Chile at the end of 2002 von Baer worked as researcher in the department of political science within the Liberty & Development Institute (Instituto Libertad y Desarrollo , or LyD). Then, she was an Academic Director for the School of Government in the Adolfo Ibanez University, a job she eventually resigned in order to join LyD as the Director of its Social and Political Program. She was devoted to the study of political systems and studies of electoral, as well as to the development of social politics in relation to the indigenous and poor. She also served as a legislative adviser, particularly in the area of automatic voter registration and the voluntary vote. At the same time she was also an associate professor in the Faculty of Government at the University for Development and a panelist on a show of Television Nacional de Chile, Estado Nacional.
In 2011 von Baer was used as an example of someone in the government with family members who have acquired the patents for crops and will benefit from the privatisation of seed.
