Tommy Mars is one of the most popular and richest Musician who was born on October 26, 1951 in Connecticut, United States. Tommy Mars (born Thomas Mariano on the 26th of October, 1951) is an American keyboardist who is famous for his collaboration in collaboration with Frank Zappa.

In 2007, Strange News From Mars was released, a jazz-jazz hybrid featuring Jon Larsen, on Zonic Entertainment with Bruce Fowler, Jimmy Carl Black, Arthur Barrow, as well as other Zappa alumni. The year 2008 is the year that Tommy Mars has a brief (three tracks) appearance on the Jimmy Carl Black Story, alongside the first Mothers of Invention drummer Jimmy Carl Black.

In 2010 Tommy Mars recorded the surrealistic audio book Willie Nickerson’s Egg, written by Jon Larsen, released in 2011. At the Molde Jazz Festival 2014 Tommy Mars performed Willie Nickerson’s Egg live (three sold out concerts), together with Arthur Barrow, Arild Andersen, Jon Larsen, etc.

Following his time in the band with Zappa, Mars alternated between teaching and performing together with Steve Vai or Stuart Hamm. In the mid-1990s Mars began to form The Band From Utopia, formed by 10 Zappa band members, who performed Zappa’s songs as tribute to Zappa.

Mars started piano classes when he was eight. Later on, his instrument selection grew to various synthesizers and keyboards. Mars completed his studies in the year 1972 at the Hartt College of Music in West Hartford, Connecticut. He struggled to get various musical positions such as church organist, choirmaster, movie accompanist and so on. In an interview published in 1980 by Keyboard magazine, Mars described one of the most unusual tasks he worked in like this “I was working in this revolving organ bar in Kodiak, Alaska, with Japanese and Russian fishermen kicking me in the back if I couldn’t play an ethnic folk song to their drunken satisfaction”.

Not knowing anything about Zappa apart from his music “King Kong” and “Peaches en Regalia”, Mars was invited to audition for Zappa’s group with the assistance of drummer Ed Mann, also a member of the Zappa group. From 1977 until 1982, he was a part of Zappa’s tour group, was in the film Baby Snakes, and recorded several Zappa albums.

Spring 2009 saw the release of the 2005 recorded No Forest Fire: Tommy Mars together with The Band From Utopia members Bruce Fowler, Walt Fowler, Kurt McGettrick, Larry Klimas, Arthur Barrow, and Vinnie Colaiuta.
