Emmanuel Dangana Ocheja is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on April 3, 1956 in Idah, Nigeria. Ocheja was enrolled at St. Boniface Primary school in Idah where he received his first school leave certificate. Then he went to Our Lady of Schools, Anyigba, Kogi State for his secondary education. He was the Head Boy at the school between 1973 until 1975. He also was the school’s president. debate society. He was enrolled in the diploma program of Law program at Ahmadu Bello University from which the degree was awarded in 1978. He was awarded the LL.B qualification from that same institution in June of 1981. Ocheja was appointed into the Nigerian Bar in July 1982 after completing his studies through The Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Ocheja was presented with a turban as Akomu Atta Igala by the HRM Dr. Aliyu Obaje (the paramount leader of the Igala Kingdom) on the 27th of December 2009. The ceremony was attended by the HRM Dr. Aliyu Obaje described Barrister Dagana Ocheja as a “worthy son of Igala the land that had enormously contributed to the growth of the region. In 2005 the president Olusegun Obasanjo appointed Barrister Ocheja to be the Chairman of the board directors of Integrated Data Services Limited (IDSL which is a part that is part of the NNPC). Ocheja was back in Kogi the state’s politics back in 2008 to be the State Chairman of the section that is part of the People’s Democratic Party, filling the gap caused by the elevation by Chief John Odawn into the national ex officio position of the party. He was appointed the chairman of the Kogi State Local Government Service Commission following the same year.

Barrister Ocheja was a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the Faulty of Law at the Ahmadu Bello University in the 1982/1983 session. The Barrister joined the Chambers of B.G. Ahmed & Co in 1983 and was promoted to the position of Director of Litigation. The firm was closed in 1986 to establish his own Law firm in the year 1986 located in Kano State named Dangana, Musa & Co in which the title is “Principal in Chambers”. The company was renamed Dangana Global Legal Services in 2012. The firm has offices located in Abuja (Headquarters), Lagos as well as Kano states.

The year 2003 was the time that Ocheja was a candidate for his People’s Democratic Party to contest for the governorship seat in Kogi State against the incumbent Prince Abubakar Audu of the All Nigeria Peoples Party. He ran in the primary elections of PDP. PDP in opposition to the Senator Ahmed Tijani Ahmed, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris AVM Isaac Alfa rtd and senator Alex Kadiri, Engr. Emmanuel Uchola, and a several other candidates. Alhaji Ibrahim Idris won the primary and went on to be the winner of the general elections during April of 2003. After losing the party’s primaries, Ocheja remained in the People’s Democratic Party and campaigned to ensure the victory of its presidential candidate (Alhaji Ibrahim Idris) in the elections. Idris was named Ocheja as a member/secretary of the transition committee which orchestrated the transfer of the power of power from the Abubakar Audu to the Prince of Abubakar Audu to his government.

In late 2010, Ocheja declared his intention to contest elections into the National Assembly of Nigeria to serve as Senator in the 7th (2011–2015) session on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party. He contested the primary elections against Ambassador Isaac Onu (then Nigerian Ambassador to Botswana), AVM Isaac Alfa (a former Chief of Air Staff 1999–2001), Attai Aidoko Usman (then Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the FCT), Barrister Kabiru Mohammed, Abdulrahman Abubakar (a former Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation), Hajiya Halima Alfa, and a number of others. Ocheja won the party primaries by polling 820 votes to beat Alfa and Onu who polled 543 and 344 votes respectively.

Ocheja did not seek elective office in 2019. He maintained his membership of the APC and campaigned for its candidates throughout Kogi state in the buildup to and during the election. As a believer in President Muhammadu Buhari and his government, Ocheja used several fora to sensitize the electorate in Kogi on why the president had to be re-elected and on the need to vote for APC members into national assembly seats so as to ensure a harmonious and productive relationship between the legislature and the executive arms of government.
