Burriss was selected as the starting second baseman on April 1st the 1st of April, 2009. In June, Burriss was playing second base when Randy Johnson won his 300th game against the Washington Nationals. Burriss’ RBI single in the second inning was deemed to be the winning RBI. Even so the fact that on June 16th the player was sent to AAA Fresno Grizzlies for Matt Downs after he had hit .238/.292/.267 during 61 matches. On the 5th of July, 2009 Burriss injured the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot while advancing to the second base of Fresno and ended his season.
