Emil Velev is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on February 5, 1962 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Emil Simeonov Velev (Bulgarian: Emil Simeonov Velev ; born 5 February 1962) is a former Bulgarian player and manager.
He guided the Blues to be champions of Bulgaria. Champion in Bulgaria on the 31st of May, 2009, following an 1-1 draw at home in the match against Minyor Pernik. Overall, the title was achieved after a tense but fantastic season under his direction. Despite poor results in the fall portion in the campaign, and following fantastic games during the early spring months, Levski Sofia fulfilled the initial goal and became champion on the 26th time with the final round in play. On July 23, 2009 Velev made it clear that he was fired at Levski Sofia, despite the fact that Levski took 9-0 the aggregate against Andorran team UE Sant Julia in the second round of qualifying for the 2009-10 UEFA Champions League.
On 8 November 2011, Velev was announced as the new head coach of Lokomotiv Plovdiv replacing Dragan Kanatlarovski after series of bad results. Velev’s contract will be until the end of the season. Velev managed to lead the team to a positive series of results. He started with a few wins and led the team to the Final of the Cup eliminating Levski Sofia at Lauta (2–1 after extra time) and Litex Lovech in Lovech (1–0) in the semifinals making it to the final against Ludogorets. However Lokomotiv lost the final against Ludogorets but made it to Europa League for the first time since 2005. The Plovdiv side played against Vitesse in the Second Round of the tournament and were eliminated after a 4-4 draw followed by a 1-3 loss in the Netherlands. In October 2012 Velev was sacked by the new Loko Plovdiv Board.
In the late 2012 Velev was appointed as new coach of Lokomotiv Sofia. He managed to avoid relegation and led the team to the semi-finals of the Bulgarian Cup after eliminating CSKA Sofia 1–0 on aggregate.
Velev had a fantastic debut as a coach in the Bulgarian league, as the coach of Levski. The Bulgarian league’s first coach was introduced on August 17, 2008 during a match in which he played Botev Plovdiv. Levski defeated the opponent by a score of 6-0. But, Velev was the target of the scorn from Levski followers on variety times during later matches because of what was perceived as inconsistency and poor tactical selections. Following the time that Levski had been eliminated in the match by Slovakian MSK Zilina, Velev criticised a few members of Levski ultras, suggesting their underlying alcoholism and addiction to drugs and criticized the insufficient support for matches. Velev later admitted that his remarks were misinterpreted by the media and tried to make amends with Levski supporters, thanking them for their devotion to their team in a couple times.

Velev’s career began in Levski Sofia. Kokala James (Bulgarian: Kokala ) (The bone James) or “The bone James” as people called him was a player in the first Levski team from 1981 to 1989. He was the Champion in Bulgaria in 1984 as well as 1985 and 1988. Velev took home the Cup of Bulgaria in 1982 and 1984. He scored 176 matches and 22 points for Levski in the championship and eight goals and 34 matches in the Cup of Bulgaria. He also played for a number of times as a player for Maccabi Ironi Ashdod F.C. in Israel.
In 2002, Velev was an assistant coach for PFC Levski Sofia. After six years, Emil took over as the head coach at Levski following Velislav Vutsov’s dismissal. Under his leadership, Levski secured a 1-1 draw away in the match against Belarusian BATE Borisov FC BATE Borisov in the third qualifying round in the UEFA Champions League, but this was not enough to allow Levski to advance after the home defeat of 0-1 the first match.
In May 2010 it was announced that Velev is the new manager of Slavia Sofia.
