In 1987, he earned his B.A. degree in biological Sciences in the Biological Sciences department at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH and was awarded the degree cum laude. He was awarded his MD with distinction from numerous rotations which included General Surgery from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in 1992. He completed his post-transitional internship in Saint Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center in Greenwich Village, where he treated patients who suffered from one of the attacks on the World Trade Center bombing in 1993. Chynn finished his training in Ophthalmology at Harvard’s Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in 1996. He then completed his training on Corneal Transplantation in addition to Refractive surgery at Emory University in 1997 under the surgeons George Waring III, MD who was known as the “father of American refractive surgery” who led the influential PERK study, the first FDA-sponsored research study on refractive surgery using lasers as well as Doyle Stulting, MD, PhD, the future president of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS). He graduated with an MBA in management, along with the Certificate in Entrepreneurship from the New York University’s Stern School of Business in 2004.

Emil William Chynn (born October 7th 1965) is an American Chinese LASEK surgeon.
