Elvira Rafailovna Missbakhova (Russian El’vira Raffailovna Misbakhova , Tatar Cyrillic: El’vira Rafail Kyzy Misbakhova; born on July 20th 1975) is a Volga Tatar born Russian / Canadian violinist and violist. Misbakhova is currently Associate Principal Viola with the Orchestre Metropolitain of Montreal, Trois-Rivieres Symphony Orchestra, and The Longueuil Symphony Orchestra.

As soloist viola she’s performed in I Musici de Montreal, the University of Montreal Symphony Orchestra and The New Generation Chamber Orchestra, the Multicultural orchestra from Montreal in which she performed the Canadian premiere of the Requiem “Holocaust” for viola and orchestra composed by Boris Pigovat. She has also performed as a member of her orchestras, the Orford Camerata and McGill Chamber Orchestras, as well as the Bachacademie Symphony Orchestra in Stuttgart, Germany (2002), and with the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra in Sapporo, Japan (2002).

Elvira Misbakhova received the Master qualification (2001) and Doctorate diploma (2006) for Interpretation (Viola) at the University of Montreal, where she worked with Eleonora Turovsky.

Misbakhova is born in and was raised in Nizhnekamsk located in Nizhnekamsk, in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. She is the daughter from Rafail Misbakhov, a Russian politician and Nurlybika Misbakhova (Saitova) . Misbakhova was a violinist in the Nizhnekamsk Music School N1, Nizhnekamsk Music College and Kazan Conservatory and graduated in 1999. In 1996, after she became Associate Violinist in the Kazan Chamber Orchestra La Primavera she began to tour extensively across Europe. in 1999 Misbakhova with her husband Airat Ichmouratov permanently moves to Montreal, Quebec, Canada and is a student at the Orford’s Centre Festival, where she came across Yuli Turovsky, a Soviet- born Canadian conductor and cellist, as well as his wife, violinist Eleonora Turovsky. Later, she became Misbakhova’s tutor.

Since 2000, Misbakhova was a member of the klezmer group Kleztory where she is currently a violinist. The year 2004 was the first time Kleztory made a recording for Chandos Records (Great Britain) CD, which featured I Musici de Montreal Chamber Orchestra and Yuli Turovsky. The album of Kleztory in 2007 “Nomade” won the Opus Prize. The most recent (2014) album “Arrival” was nominated as the top album of the year in the Traditional music by ADISQ. In 2012, Kleztory received the klezmer Furth Prize at International Klezmer Festival and Competition in Amsterdam and was subsequently featured at the Furth Klezmer Festival during the subsequent spring . Alongside Kleztory, Evira Misbakhova has performed as a soloist in a variety of orchestras like that of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, I Musici de Montreal Chamber Orchestra, Les Violons du Roy and the Brussels Chamber Orchestra and toured extensively throughout Canada, USA, Brazil, Mexico, Costa Rica, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Romania and China.

In 2013 Misbakhova founded the Turovsky String Quartet to honour the passionate and inspiring Yuli and Eleonora Turovsky. Together with violinists Anastasia Virlan, Robert Margaryan, and cellist Katherina Bragina, they continue to play at chamber music series and festivals in Montreal and throughout Quebec.
