On July 9, 2009 Benyon was granted a one-year deal to join the promoted Gulls and was a key first-team player. His 15 goals across every competition contributed to helping Torquay endure a difficult start to their season returning to League Two. He scored 14 goals in the midway point of the season. In January 2011, he was signed by League One Swindon Town for an unspecified amount, and signed the two-and-a-half year contract following The Robins sold Charlie Austin to Burnley. He scored an injury-time equaliser in his first game against Rochdale. Then, at the end of the campaign, Swindon were relegated to League Two and on 20 June 2011 Benyon was offered an extended loan for the duration of the season by his hometown team Wycombe Wanderers, who had had been promoted into League One. Benyon made his debut as an 66th minute substitute to Gareth Ainsworth in a 1-1 away draw against Colchester United, and scored his first goal in the League Cup against Nottingham Forest.

Benyon was able to secure more regular spots in the starting lineup for Torquay during the 2008-09 season and made the total of 36 appearances in the league. The season ended with the second Wembley appearance in the space of two years for Benyon along with Torquay United when the Gulls defeated Cambridge United 2-0 in the Conference National Play-off final in May 2009, to secure their place into the Football League. Cambridge player Phil Bolland was sent off for an offence against Benyon.

Benyon began his career as a student with Bristol City after being spotted playing in the local league at High Wycombe. While he didn’t make any first team appearances with the club and having impressive loan spells to National Conference sides St Albans City and Crawley Town during the 2006-07 seasons caught the attention of Paul Buckle, who signed Benyon in June 2007 to be a player for Torquay United, who had themselves been demoted out of the Football League.
Although he struggled to earn the chance to start regularly during his debut year as a member of the Gulls, Benyon still managed to make 22 appearancesand scored five times during the 2007-08 campaign. He was also a substitute in the second half of an appearance at Wembley during Torquay’s 1-0 loss against Ebbsfleet United in the 2008 FA Trophy final.
Benyon signed for League Two club Southend United in January 2012 for an undisclosed fee. He started his first game for Southend on 2 January, against Dagenham & Redbridge, before being substituted late on for Neil Harris. He found first team opportunities limited at Southend and in February 2013 rejoined former club Torquay United on a month’s loan with an option to extend the deal to the end of the season. He was then released by Southend at the end of the season, before rejoining Torquay permanently in July 2013.
