in 2012, Kroger made an announcement of his departure on June 29, 2012 to take over as the president of Reed College, and Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber named Rosenblum to take over the place of Kroger in the same day. It was also coincidental that Rosenblum’s father, Victor Rosenblum, had served as the President of Reed from 1968 until 1970. Rosenblum became the first woman in Oregon to serve as Attorney General. She was appointed to the post until January before winning elections in the November general election to secure an entire term. While there was there was no Republican had filed for the first round of primary voting, Portland attorney James Buchal was able to get enough write-in votes in order to make it onto an election in November for Republican.
Rosenblum was re-elected to another term as Attorney General in November 2016, defeating Republican candidate Daniel Crowe.
Oregon Attorney General John Kroger announced in October 2011 that he was not running for another term. In Jan. 2012 Rosenblum declared that she will run for the Democratic presidential nomination to the post. U.S. Attorney Dwight Holton was also in the race and was able to gain an early fundraising advantage due to the backing of the majority of the law enforcement officers in the state. Rosenblum concentrated on social issues and in the event that Holton criticized the Oregon Medical Marijuana Act, Rosenblum received the support from Oregon marijuana legalization advocates in her pledge that she would “make marijuana enforcement a low priority, and protect the rights of medical marijuana patients.” When she ran in the maiden Democratic primary Rosenblum went on to beat Holton by a whopping 30 percent points and advance towards the general election.

Rosenblum was born in Berkeley, California, one of eight children born to Jewish parents Victor and Louise Rosenblum. The family relocated from the city of Berkeley to Evanston, Illinois, where her father was a professor of law in the law department at Northwestern University for 40 years as well as the head of Reed College from 1968 to 1970. The girl graduated in 1970 from Evanston Township High School and went to Scripps College before earning her undergraduate degree at University of Oregon. University of Oregon in 1971 in addition to earning an J.D. degree in 1975.
As of 1975 Rosenblum was appointed an associate in her firm, the Eugene legal firm Hammons, Phillips and Jensen She later became a partner of the firm. In 1980, she was appointed an assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon, specializing in financial criminals. In 1989 the Governor appointed Neil Goldschmidt as a judge for the Multnomah County District Court where she ruled until 1993, in which the Governor Barbara Roberts appointed her as an judge on the Multnomah County Circuit Court. In 2005 Governor Ted Kulongoski named her to fill an opening of the Oregon Court of Appeals, and she was appointed to a full term of six years in 2006 and then retired as judge in May of 2011.
Rosenblum is married to Richard Meeker, the publisher (until 2015) and co- owner of the Willamette Week newspaper in Portland. The couple has two grown children.
