Roberts (born on 17 April 1957) was the 38th Lieutenant Governor of the State of Rhode Island from 2007 to the year 2015. She held the post under both the regimes of Republican Governor Donald Carcieri and Independent- turned Democrat Lincoln Chafee. She was elected the state’s first Democrat in 2006, and was the first female Lieutenant Governor. She was succeeding by Daniel McKee on January 6 in 2015. She later became the Secretary for Health and Human Services during the administration of Governor Gina Raimondo, but subsequently quit due to the widely-discredited statewide computer system rollout.

Following the 2014 election, which Roberts was not a candidate in the governor-elect Gina Raimondo announced Roberts as her choice for the position that of Secretary in the Executive Office of Health and Human Services.

Roberts also helped expand the state’s prescription drug program for seniors (RIPAE) and helped expand coverage to more families through Rite Care, the state’s public health system. The reform organization Common Cause named Roberts one of the top two senators in Rhode Island in 2006, giving her the second highest rating in the General Assembly at 91% and an “A” for her reform efforts during the legislative session.

Roberts was elected Rhode Island’s inaugural female Governor the 7th of November 2006. She was sworn in by the Lieutenant Governor 68th of Rhode Island on January 2 2007, 2007. She was a bit hesitant that she could run as Governor during the 2010 elections However, she chose to run for re-election in the position of Lieutenant Governor.

This crash created a backlog of over 20,000 cases.
